NIEUWEGEIN, The Netherlands, May 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Ballast Nedam is to commence reconstruction of the A12 motorway between Zoetermeer and Gouda, following the Dutch construction industry holidays this summer. This project was commissioned by the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management. The project consists of resurfacing the carriageway over the entire 12-km stretch, adding extra lanes for use during rush hour, and renovation of the existing junction with the N209 near Bleiswijk. A new junction will be constructed with the N219 near Zevenhuizen. This will replace the current junctions at Zevenhuizen and Waddinxveen. Throughout the entire stretch a dynamic traffic management system will be installed. This system is necessary for the use of the extra lanes and among others consists of traffic signalling and camera security.
Ballast Nedam has the necessary expertise in house to carry projects of this nature from start to finish. The only external company involved in the project is technical service provider Imtech, who will install the traffic management system. The project will span roughly two years, and is scheduled for completion in the autumn of 2010.
