PHILADELPHIA, May 30
/PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following was issued today by People Safe in Rollovers Foundation:
EVENT: PRESS CONFERENCE with: America's Forgotten: Victims of 'Roof Crush' in Rollovers Speak Out...One Day before June 4th Senate Hearing on 'Roof Crush'
Date: Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008
Time: 10:00 to 11:00 AM
Place:
National Press Club
529 14th Street NW
Washington, D.C.
Location: Lisagor Room, 13th floor
Details: Every year 10, 000 people die in rollovers and 24,000 are catastrophically injured. These statistics are a national disgrace. NHTSA's (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's) safety standard for ROOF CRUSH RESISTANCE has been a total failure for the past 35 years. NHTSA, and ultimately, our lawmakers have failed the American public. NHTSA's proposed rule is not only grossly inadequate but grants preemption from liability for automakers --precluding injured rollover victims from seeking justice and compensation in court. This clause is unconstitutional. Automakers must be held accountable. NHTSA must live up to its mandate to protect the people.
